At the start

Out of the mountains, into Bergerac

Two hundred and eight flat kilometres north out of the Pyrenees to Bergerac, with one small climb above the vineyards at Monbazillac twelve kilometres from the line. Vincenzo Nibali won on Hautacam and leads by 7:10 from Thibaut Pinot, 7:23 from Jean-Christophe Péraud and 7:25 from Alejandro Valverde — fifteen seconds covering the rest of the podium. For everyone else, this is the last chance.

How it was won

1. 130 km to go

   Slagter leaves the others

   The break's minute is dwindling with 30km left, so Tom-Jelte Slagter goes alone, leaving Gautier, Gérard, Elmiger and Taaramae to be swept up.

2. 212 km to go

   Navardauskas jumps on the only climb

   1.3 kilometres at 7.6 per cent above the vineyards, and the Lithuanian champion bridges to his own teammate — then drops him before the descent and rides for Bergerac with 23 seconds on a disorganised peloton.

3. 33 km to go

   Sagan goes down at 3km

   The chase is furious and getting close when a crash inside the last three kilometres wrecks the Cannondale train and puts the green jersey on the ground.

4. 4At the line

   Garmin get theirs at last

   Navardauskas holds seven seconds to the line in Bergerac, Degenkolb leading the bunch in behind, and a team that has spent three weeks trying finally has its stage.
