The road
At the start
The short, steep drag into Rodez
Warren Barguil won in Foix on Bastille Day, and Fabio Aru holds yellow by six seconds over Froome, 25 over Bardet, 35 over Urán; Jakob Fuglsang abandoned. Today crosses Occitanie to the edge of the Massif Central, 180 kilometres with two late climbs and then the finish itself — a short, steep drag up into Rodez that no pure sprinter has the legs for.
How it was won
- 36 km to go
The late climbs bite
The Côte de Centrés and the lumpy run toward Rodez set up a punchy, nervous finale for the puncheurs and the GC men alike.
- 3 km to go
Froome retakes yellow
On the sharp drag up to Rodez, Froome distances Fabio Aru just enough to snatch back the yellow jersey by a handful of seconds.
- At the line
Matthews wins in Rodez
Michael Matthews times his effort perfectly, charging past Greg Van Avermaet on the uphill drag to win by a bike length.
