How it was won

  1. 49 km to go

The break splinters on the Vars

On the Col de Vars the huge breakaway begins to fracture, the weaker sacrificed to the mountains as the survivors press on toward the Izoard.

  2. 20 km to go

    Atapuma’s bid

Darwin Atapuma catches the last leaders on the lower Izoard and pushes on alone, chasing the elusive first Grand Tour stage win he has come so close to before.

  3. 4 km to go

    Barguil attacks with Contador

With 5km to go Barguil and Contador leap from the yellow-jersey group; Barguil proves too strong and forges ahead alone up the legendary Izoard.

  4. 2 km to go

    Froome answers Bardet and Landa

Landa attacks as Kwiatkowski cracks, then Froome himself surges with 3km to go, shadowing every move from Bardet and Urán.

  5. At the line

    Barguil crowns his Tour

Warren Barguil catches and passes Atapuma inside the final kilometre to win atop the Col d’Izoard, sealing the mountains classification in style.
