At the start

Millau to Carcassonne, over the Pic de Nore

Nothing moved at Mende: Geraint Thomas is still 1:39 up on Chris Froome and 1:50 on Tom Dumoulin. Today is 181 kilometres from Millau to Carcassonne, over the Col de Sié and then the long, exposed Pic de Nore, with a run of false-flat descent after it. A breakaway day if ever there was one — and the last before the second rest day.

How it was won

  1. 91 km to go

    A thirty-strong break

A huge move of favourites for the day forces clear after 40km, Sagan, Van Avermaet, Mollema, Terpstra and more building over thirteen minutes on the peloton.

  2. 41 km to go

The break shatters on the Pic de Nore

Majka forces the pace over the exposed, windswept summit of the Pic de Nore, splintering the escape into fragments on the long run to Carcassonne.

  3. At the line

    Cort wins the three-up sprint

From a leading trio Magnus Cort holds off Izagirre and Mollema for Astana's second straight stage in Carcassonne.
