   Gilbert's terrifying crash

   Leading over the Col de Portet-d'Aspet, Philippe Gilbert loses a tight corner and flips over a low wall into the trees below — the descent where Casartelli died in 1995. Astonishingly, he climbs back on and finishes.

2. 247 km to go

   Alaphilippe covers on the Col de Menté

   Gesink and Caruso attack on the Col de Menté; Alaphilippe hauls himself across before the summit to take maximum mountain points in defence of his polka-dots.

3. 313 km to go

   Yates attacks and crashes

   Adam Yates attacks again and again on the Portillon and crests first, only to crash at speed on the descent — leaving Alaphilippe to slip past.

4. 4At the line

   Alaphilippe descends to a double

   Alaphilippe's descending mastery carries him clear to Bagnères-de-Luchon for his second win of the Tour.
