At the start

Van Avermaet in yellow, into Brittany

BMC beat Sky by four seconds in Cholet, so Greg Van Avermaet is in yellow, level on time with Tejay van Garderen and three seconds up on Geraint Thomas. Quick-Step hold three of the top six. Today is the first of three Breton days — 196 kilometres from the beach at La Baule around the Gulf of Morbihan to Sarzeau — and the sprinters expect it back.

How it was won

1. 16 km to go

   Crash splits the bunch

A rider goes down near the front and a chain reaction scatters the peloton; Urán scrambles back on but Zakarin loses nearly a minute.

2. 2At the line

   Gaviria doubles up

Max Richeze drags Gaviria through the melee and the Colombian edges Sagan and Greipel into Sarzeau for his second win of the week.
