The road
At the start
The longest day, Fougères to Chartres
Dan Martin won on the Mûr and Geraint Thomas moved up to second, three seconds behind Greg Van Avermaet. Today is the longest stage of the race: 230 kilometres out of Brittany, through Mayenne and the Sarthe, to the cathedral at Chartres. The plain of the Beauce at the end of it is open and can be windy, which is about the only thing likely to interrupt a third bunch sprint.
How it was won
- 140 km to go
Offredo's lone rally
Yoann Offredo jumps clear with 195km to go and, when nobody follows, jokingly waves the TV motorbike through to share the work on a 100km solo that peaks at seven minutes.
