At the start

Bernal rides to Paris in yellow

Vincenzo Nibali won at Val Thorens and the Tour is settled: Egan Bernal, twenty-two years old, leads Geraint Thomas by 1:11, with Kruijswijk third and Alaphilippe — after fourteen days in yellow — fifth at 3:45. Peter Sagan carries a seventh green jersey to Paris and Bardet the polka dots. A hundred and twenty-eight kilometres from Rambouillet, then eight laps of the Champs-Élysées.

   A gentle start to Paris

   Over the Côte de Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse Wellens takes the day's first point; behind him the peloton toasts Bernal, the yellow jersey secure, on the processional roll toward the capital.

2. 27 km to go

   Van Avermaet's last throw

   As the bell rings and the sun dips behind the Arc de Triomphe, Greg Van Avermaet flings himself up the road in a brave solo bid, but is caught before the top of the Champs-Élysées cobbles.

   Ewan wins, Bernal makes history

   Caleb Ewan rockets between Bonifazio and the barriers to win on the Champs-Élysées, while Ineos celebrate once more — Egan Bernal, at 22, the first Colombian ever to win the Tour de France.

The result
