At the start

Into the Vosges, where anyone can win

Elia Viviani finally has his first Tour stage, taken in Nancy with Alaphilippe himself helping the lead-out, and nothing moved at the top: the Frenchman in yellow, Van Aert at twenty seconds. Today tickles the edge of the Vosges over 175 kilometres to Colmar, the Haut-Koenigsbourg, the Trois-Épis and the Cinq Châteaux stacked into the finale with ten flat kilometres after the last of them.

1. 138 km to go

   The Vosges bite

   On the Côte des Trois-Épis the climbs finally take their toll — Viviani, Kristoff and Simon Yates all lose contact as the strong break dangles just over a minute ahead.

2. 222 km to go

   The last man caught

   The breakaway's final survivor Skujiņš is reeled in with 22km to go as the peloton grinds up the Côte des Cinq Châteaux.

3. 37 km to go

   Rui Costa's late dig

   Rui Costa attacks with 7.4km to go and clings to an eleven-second buffer until 2km out — a hint of form even if the stage was always destined for a sprint.

4. 4At the line

   The Sagan show

   Peter Sagan powers clear in Colmar for a first win of the race over Van Aert and Trentin, unveiling the Hulk celebration once more.
