The road
At the start
Alaphilippe in yellow, and two more gone
Julian Alaphilippe wakes in yellow, four seconds up on Adam Yates and seven on Marc Hirschi, having ridden into it in tears yesterday for a father who died in June. The opening weekend keeps taking its toll behind him: Philippe Gilbert and Rafael Valls do not start. The road to Sisteron follows Napoleon's march inland over four categorised climbs — a sprinters' day, but only nominally.
How it was won
- 38 km to go
A nervous run to Sisteron
The sprinters' teams wrestle for control on the twisting approach to Sisteron, the bunch strung out and edgy after two crash-hit days.
- At the line
Ewan dives through the gap
Caleb Ewan slips through a closing gap between Peter Sagan and the barriers, then surges past Sam Bennett in sight of the line to win the stage.
