The sprinters get their day
Adam Yates keeps yellow after the Jaizkibel, but Tadej Pogačar's bonus seconds have brought him up to six, level with Simon Yates, and Jonas Vingegaard sits sixth at 17 — the whole race is inside twenty seconds. Today the Tour leaves Spain: four small climbs along the Basque coast, then a flat run over the border to Bayonne. Jakobsen, Ewan, Philipsen and Cavendish have all been waiting for this.

Bayonne run-in
A sharp U-turn and a late chicane through Bayonne shred Soudal-QuickStep's control, and it is exactly then that the Alpecin train of Rickaert, Van der Poel and Philipsen surges to the front.

Bayonne
Van der Poel delivers Philipsen to the line and the Belgian takes the first bunch sprint of the Tour by half a wheel from Bauhaus and Ewan.
