At the start

The Tourmalet, and Pogačar behind

Jai Hindley rode into yellow off the Marie-Blanque, 47 seconds ahead of Jonas Vingegaard — and Tadej Pogačar is sixth at 1:40, having lost a minute in the closing kilometres of yesterday. Today is 145 kilometres and 3,894 metres of climbing: the Col d'Aspin, then the Col du Tourmalet with seventy kilometres still to run, and a summit finish at Cauterets-Cambasque. Pogačar has to answer.

How it was won

1. 155 km to go

   Jumbo split the Tourmalet

   Jumbo-Visma tear the race apart on the Col du Tourmalet, distancing Hindley and the rest of the podium contenders to tee up their leader.

2. 247 km to go

   Vingegaard's record climb

   Inside the last 2.5 kilometres of the Tourmalet Vingegaard launches again, and only Pogačar goes with him. The pair crest two minutes clear of everyone else, having shattered the climb's record time.

3. 35 km to go

   Cauterets

   On the final climb Vingegaard attacks once more, 4.6km from the line, and at first Pogačar looks a man merely clinging to his Tour.

4. 43 km to go

   The rope-a-dope

   It was a trap worthy of Ali. With 2.8km to go Pogačar erupts out of Vingegaard's slipstream, opening a sudden gap the Dane can only watch grow toward the summit.

5. 5At the line

   Cauterets summit

   Pogačar wins by 24 seconds to strike back hard, but Vingegaard has done enough to take the yellow jersey off Hindley on the first summit finish of the race.
