Jonas Vingegaard is in yellow after the Pyrenees, 25 seconds up on Tadej Pogačar, with Jai Hindley third at 1:34. Today it flattens out: 170 kilometres down to the Garonne and Bordeaux, where Mark Cavendish won in 2010. He is level with Merckx on thirty-four Tour stages, has been sixth and fifth in the two sprints so far, and this is his last Tour. Jasper Philipsen has won both of those sprints.

After a languid, heat-sapped day the lone escapees are reeled in on the fast run beside the Garonne, and the sprint trains assemble in the tailwind toward Bordeaux.
