At the start

Twenty-five kilometres through the Burgundy vineyards: a gentle climb in the middle, a technical descent off it, and a flat power run into Gevrey-Chambertin. Pogačar starts last of all, 45 seconds up on Remco Evenepoel and 50 on Jonas Vingegaard — and everybody, the yellow jersey included, has named Evenepoel the favourite. The world time trial champion is riding his first Tour and has never worn the maillot jaune.

   Evenepoel flies the hill

   Through the Burgundy vineyards Remco Evenepoel attacks every metre of the course, leading Pogačar by ten seconds and Vingegaard by more at the top of the mid-course climb.

2. 2At the line

   Evenepoel's maiden Tour win

   Despite fearing a late puncture, the world time-trial champion powers home to beat Pogačar by twelve seconds for a first Tour stage on debut, closing to within 33 seconds of yellow.
