The road

At the start

Tourmalet, Aspin, Peyresourde, and more

Two wins in two days have put Tadej Pogačar 4:07 clear of Jonas Vingegaard; Remco Evenepoel, third at 7:24, lost more than two and a half minutes on the Peyragudes climb alone. The hardest day in the Pyrenees is 182 kilometres and five thousand metres of climbing — the Tourmalet straight out of Pau, then Aspin, then Peyresourde, then the long haul to Luchon-Superbagnères.

How it was won

1. 1162 km to go

   Into the high Pyrenees

   The queen stage of the Pyrenees sends a strong break up the road, Thymen Arensman among the climbers.

2. 2102 km to go

   Evenepoel is dropped, and stops

   On the lower slopes of the Tourmalet the third-placed rider goes out the back almost at once. Eenkhoorn nurses him up the mountain, the gap grows past the point of rescue, and Remco Evenepoel climbs off.

3. 393 km to go

   Over the Tourmalet

   Over the giant of the Pyrenees the bunch thins to the GC core, with the Aspin, the Peyresourde and a mountaintop finish still to come.

4. 432 km to go

   Arensman flies clear

   Just short of the Peyresourde summit, 36km from home, Arensman attacks the break and time-trials away alone — over the top, down the valley and onto Superbagnères with two minutes in hand.

5. 54 km to go

   Pogačar attacks again

   Behind, Pogačar attacks Vingegaard inside the final 4km, taking yet more time on his rival.

   Arensman solos to a stunning win at Superbagnères; Pogačar extends his lead once more.
