At the start

Van der Poel in yellow, flat to Dunkerque

Mathieu van der Poel took the jersey on the walls of Boulogne and leads Tadej Pogačar by four seconds, Jonas Vingegaard by six — the whole Tour inside ten seconds after two days. Today is pan-flat to Dunkerque and belongs to the sprinters, Tim Merlier and Jonathan Milan chief among them. The danger is the crosswind, and the fight for position that comes with it.

How it was won

  1. 28 km to go

    A messy, nervous run

The road to Dunkerque is strung-out and edgy, the flat finale littered with crashes as the sprinters fight for position in the wind.

  2. At the line

    Merlier wins the dash

Tim Merlier times his sprint to perfection on the chaotic run-in to win stage 3 in Dunkerque.
