A Tour rematch on the Marbella front
Seven and a half kilometres of team time trial along the Marbella seafront open a Vuelta with all four of the Tour's top finishers in it: Chris Froome, Nairo Quintana, Alejandro Valverde and Vincenzo Nibali, the last of them flanked by Fabio Aru and Mikel Landa. Alberto Contador is the one name missing. Nine summit finishes are coming; this evening only seconds are at stake.

A scorching Andalusian evening on the Marbella seafront. MTN-Qhubeka open the afternoon, then LottoNL-Jumbo post 8:18 and it stands and stands, until Orica take seven seconds off it.

BMC come home with the bare minimum of five riders and beat Tinkoff-Saxo by a single hundredth. Peter Velits leads them across and takes the first red jersey of the race.
