At the start

A fifth straight day with a cat-1

Miguel Ángel López won at Calar Alto, where an attack by Contador and Nibali blew the race apart behind him: Nibali is second now at 1:19, Chaves has slipped to 2:33, and Froome came in fourteen seconds down. Today climbs the Puerto del León and then the Torcal, which drops the race into a landscape of limestone towers — a fifth stage in a row with a first-category climb, and one for the break.
