The road
At the start
Roglič's last 107 kilometres
Tadej Pogačar attacked with forty kilometres to go on the Peña Negra, rode the whole descent in a tuck and took a third stage win, third overall and the white jersey back — twenty years old, on his first Grand Tour. Roglič has 2:33 on Valverde and only the ceremonial ride left: 107 kilometres from Fuenlabrada, eight laps of the Gran Vía, and a sprint that has ended every Vuelta but one in a decade.
How it was won
- 37 km to go
Madrid laps out
On the technical finishing circuit the escapes come and go with no hope of survival; Roglič rides serenely in red, the title as good as won.
