At the start

A team time trial in Barcelona

The Vuelta starts with the reigning champions of all three Grand Tours on the line: Jonas Vingegaard and Primož Roglič as joint leaders of the same Jumbo-Visma team, and Remco Evenepoel back with unfinished business after COVID took the maglia rosa off him at the Giro. Today is 14.4 technical kilometres of team time trial through Barcelona, finishing by the fountain in Montjuïc Park.

How it was won

  1. 6 km to go

    Montjuïc in the dark

On a treacherous, rain-slicked course of 22 corners, Movistar match dsm-firmenich to the checkpoint on their home roads, riding in near-darkness.

  2. At the line

    Montjuïc Park

Team dsm-firmenich put in a mistake-free ride to win the opening team time trial, Lorenzo Milesi taking the first red jersey by less than a second.
