At the start

Pamplona, and Zuarrarrate twice

Remco Evenepoel won at Larra-Belagua a day after losing twenty-seven minutes there, and at the top of the race nothing moved: Sepp Kuss in red, Primož Roglič at 1:37, Jonas Vingegaard at 1:44, all three in the same jersey. Today is 152 kilometres west out of Pamplona over the long Puerto de Lizarraga and then the Puerto de Zuarrarrate twice, the last time eight kilometres from Lekunberri.

How it was won

  1. 100 km to go

    Puerto de Lizarraga

Evenepoel attacks again and again on the long Lizarraga, dragging a 40-rider group clear and forcing Vingegaard and Soler to chase as the GC comes alive.

  2. 10 km to go

    Zuarrarrate

On the final climb Buitrago and Costa slip away; Evenepoel, drained after 48 hours on the attack, is dropped 1.5km from the summit as his batteries finally die.

  3. At the line

    Lekunberri

Rui Costa plays every card perfectly, coming late in the three-up sprint to beat Kämna and Buitrago.
