The road

At the start

Galicia, straight off the rest day

Sierra Nevada scattered the classification without touching the top of it: O'Connor still leads, by 3:53 from Roglič, but Richard Carapaz has climbed from eighteenth to third and Adam Yates from twenty-seventh to seventh. João Almeida did not start; Antonio Tiberi abandoned. The race resumes on the far side of Spain with five categorised climbs in 160 Galician kilometres and the Alto de Mougás twenty from Baiona.

How it was won

1. 199 km to go

   A five-man break holds

   After a long fight Van Aert makes the day's five-man move, the biggest name up the road and the clear favourite if his companions can't shake him.

2. 230 km to go

   Van Aert goes alone on the Mougás

   Rather than risk a sprint, Van Aert attacks before the intermediate sprint on the final Alto de Mougás; only Quentin Pacher can follow him over the top.

3. 3At the line

   Van Aert wins the two-up sprint

   Pacher leads it out but is powerless against Van Aert's finishing speed, the Belgian taking a comfortable third stage win into Baiona.
