At the start

The Cruxeiras wall, eight kilometres out

Wout van Aert won again in Baiona and the classification did not move: O'Connor 3:53 up on Roglič, with only Enric Mas and Richard Carapaz inside five minutes of red. Giulio Ciccone abandoned. Today has four climbs in 163 kilometres, none of them long, and the last is the Puerto Cruxeiras — 2.9 kilometres at 8.9%, cresting eight from the line. It is exactly the sort of ramp Roglič takes twenty seconds on.

How it was won

1. 193 km to go

   A huge 38-man break forms

   A breathless opening hour produces a vast 38-rider move, so strong that even Decathlon's control of the bunch can't rein it in.

2. 233 km to go

   Meurisse's long solo ends

   Xandro Meurisse's 90km lone adventure off the front of the break is finally snuffed out with 33km to go as the escapees turn on each other.

3. 33 km to go

   Roglič attacks the Cruxeiras wall

   On the brutal 9% ramps of the Puerto Cruxeiras, Roglič attacks and only Mas can hold him; O'Connor is dropped and haemorrhages half a minute on the downhill run home.

4. 42 km to go

   Dunbar's late jump

   From the caught remnants of the break Eddie Dunbar times it perfectly, launching 650 metres out on the right-hand side and shooting clear of the tiring bunch.

5. 5At the line

   Dunbar outfoxes them all

   Dunbar holds off Hermans and Poole for a first Grand Tour win in Padrón, while Roglič's GC gains cut O'Connor's overall lead to 3:16.
