At the start

The Angliru

Twelve and a half kilometres at ten per cent with ramps at twenty-three: the Alto de l'Angliru closes today's 203 kilometres, and it has decided Vueltas on its own. Jonas Vingegaard leads João Almeida by 50 seconds and Tom Pidcock by 56. Nobody in the race expects the classification to look the same at the top.

   Before the Angliru

   A break forms ahead of the monstrous Alto de l'Angliru.

2. 227 km to go

   Onto the savage slopes

   The GC men hit the lower ramps of the Angliru together, the cruellest gradients in Spain looming above them.

3. 35 km to go

   Almeida and Vingegaard alone

   On the 23% walls Almeida and Vingegaard ride clear of everyone, the two strongest men in the race trading turns and glances on the brutal climb.

4. 42 km to go

   Almeida finds a kick

   Almeida finds a final acceleration on the upper wall and edges ahead, taking the stage and clawing back precious seconds.

5. 5At the line

   Almeida wins on the Angliru

   Almeida holds off Vingegaard to win atop the Angliru; the Dane cedes time but keeps red.
