Valdezcaray, and Visma's move

Torstein Træen has held red for three days, 2:33 up on Jonas Vingegaard and 2:41 on João Almeida. Today ends at Valdezcaray, the long, steady climb the Vuelta used to run uphill time trials on — 197 kilometres and 3,100 metres of climbing to reach it, and the first day Visma have any reason to ride on the front.

   His rivals can only limit their losses as the gaps stretch out behind.

   Vingegaard wins alone, twenty-four seconds up on Pidcock and Almeida. Red stays with Torstein Træen, but the Norwegian's lead is down to thirty-seven seconds.
