Crosswinds on the road to Dublin

Michael Matthews takes the pink jersey off his own team-mates by three seconds, with Orica-GreenEdge still holding six of the first six places. Marcel Kittel won yesterday from a position that looked hopeless and now leads the points. Today runs south out of Armagh, across the border, to a finish on the Dublin quays: flat, coastal, and blown all the way by a 30km/h westerly strong enough to break the race in half.

   Swift's chain jumps

   Inside the last 10km Ben Swift suffers a mechanical and has to sprint back to a bunch already winding up for Dublin. Kittel, boxed and dropped in the final kilometre, is having to do it the hard way too.

   Kittel edges it in Dublin

   Swift launches long and thinks he has won; Kittel drags himself onto the Yorkshireman's wheel and throws his bike past on the line for back-to-back stages, with Viviani third.
