The road
At the start
Coppi's village to the Oropa shrine
Gaviria won a fourth stage in Tortona, and Dumoulin still leads Quintana by 2:23, Mollema by 2:38, Pinot by 2:40. André Greipel and Jakub Mareczko did not start. Today begins at Castellania, Fausto Coppi's birthplace, then crosses 120 kilometres of plain before the Alps arrive all at once: the climb to the sanctuary at Oropa, steep from the first metre, where Marco Pantani rode through the whole field in 1999.
