The road
At the start
A San Remo finish in Calabria
Nothing moved around Messina: Bob Jungels still leads by six seconds from Geraint Thomas, five of the favourites tied at ten, and Fernando Gaviria took the sprint and the points jersey. Today runs 217 kilometres north up the Calabrian coast to a finish borrowed from Milan-San Remo — away from the sea with seven kilometres left, a twisting balcony road above it, and the last two kilometres all uphill.
How it was won
- 68 km to go
The break holds firm
The day’s escapees keep the sprinters’ teams at bay on the rolling Calabrian roads.
- 8 km to go
Dillier and Stuyven go
Silvan Dillier and Jasper Stuyven jump clear of the break and open a decisive gap.
