At the start

Into the Gargano, a finish that bites

Caleb Ewan took his first Giro stage in Alberobello and the classification is now four days old: Bob Jungels leads Geraint Thomas by six seconds, six riders sit at ten. The first eighty-five kilometres are a coastal procession, then the race turns up into the Gargano — Monte Sant'Angelo, ten kilometres at six per cent — and rides cape to cape on a road that never settles, to an uphill finish at Peschici.

How it was won

  1. 46 km to go

    Battling over the Gargano

The break fights over the Coppa Santa Tecla as the Gargano climbs strip away the weaker riders.

  2. 9 km to go

    Izagirre’s move

Gorka Izagirre times his attack out of the leading group to perfection on the run to Peschici.

  3. At the line

    Izagirre wins in Peschici

Gorka Izagirre holds on from the break to win in Peschici.
