At the start

Across the plain to Nervesa

Nothing changed in the rain at Imola: Simon Yates still leads Tom Dumoulin by 47 seconds and Thibaut Pinot by 1:04. Today is the flattest day of the whole race — 181 kilometres from Ferrara across the Veneto plain with 423 metres of climbing in total, and the Montello, twenty kilometres out, the only thing resembling a hill. Viviani, soaked and beaten yesterday, wants an answer.

How it was won

  1. 20 km to go

    The Montello climb

The day's only real challenge, 21km out, tempts a flurry of hopefuls, but the sprint trains keep everything on a tight leash.

  2. At the line

    Viviani bounces back

After his soaking in Imola, Viviani strikes early and takes no prisoners in Nervesa della Battaglia for his third win of the Giro.
