At the start

42 flat kilometres, and pink at risk

Afonso Eulálio comes out of the rest day still in pink, 2:24 ahead of Jonas Vingegaard and 2:59 ahead of Felix Gall, and says his Giro is already made: he wanted only to reach the rest day in the maglia rosa. Today is the race's only time trial, 42 pan-flat kilometres along the coast from Viareggio to Massa. Vingegaard rides it in a Giro-issue mountains jersey.

   GC surprises at the first check

   At the opening time check Vingegaard is unexpectedly down on Arensman and O'Connor, while maglia rosa Eulálio is already haemorrhaging a minute of his lead across the pan-flat Tuscan coast.

   Ganna smashes it

   Filippo Ganna dominates the race's only time trial from Viareggio to Massa for his eighth career Giro stage win, the flat 42km course reshuffling the overall standings behind him.
