At the start

Froome's lead doubles, then a flat day

The time trial did what Sky wanted: Chris Froome leads Bauke Mollema by 1:47, Adam Yates by 2:45 and Nairo Quintana by 2:59, with Richie Porte at 4:27. Today is 208 kilometres north up the Rhône valley to a bird park at Villars-les-Dombes — three small climbs in the first half and nothing after them, the sprinters' last easy afternoon before the Jura. Edward Theuns abandoned in the time trial.

   Into a block headwind

   With three kilometres left the road turns and the crosswind becomes a headwind. Etixx take the initiative, swinging the bunch from one side to the other, and the sprint is decided by who reads the switch.

2. 2At the line

   Cavendish's fourth

   Sabatini peels off with 300 metres left and Kittel is a sitting duck. Cavendish comes off his wheel down the left for win number four; the German throws his arms up in protest at the line.
