   Selection on the Madeleine

   The Col de la Madeleine sets the tone, splintering the field early on a savage Alpine stage bound for Alpe d'Huez.

2. 270 km to go

   Kruijswijk's audacious raid

   Steven Kruijswijk attacks with 70km still to run and rides away alone, building a lead of over six minutes on the Sky-led field — the ride of his life, and a bold, dangerous gamble.

3. 355 km to go

   Sky burn the Croix-de-Fer

   Team Sky set a ferocious tempo over the Croix-de-Fer, whittling the GC group to seventeen — but they can't dent Kruijswijk's advantage over the top.

4. 44 km to go

   Kruijswijk caught on the Alpe

   His legs finally emptied by the long solo, Kruijswijk is reeled in four kilometres from the summit and can only watch the favourites surge past.

5. 5At the line

   Thomas makes history on Alpe d'Huez

   Geraint Thomas jumps clear of the favourites on the hallowed 21 bends to win atop Alpe d'Huez in the yellow jersey — the first race leader ever to do so, and his second stage win in a row.
