At the start

31km, and the Col de Pinodieta

Primož Roglič descended the Aubisque into third place and pushed Chris Froome to fourth, but at the top of the list Geraint Thomas is still 2:05 clear of Tom Dumoulin. Today is the only individual time trial of this Tour: 31 kilometres through the Basque hills, up and down the whole way, with the Col de Pinodieta — a kilometre long, twenty-two per cent at its worst — three from the line.

How it was won

  1. 3 km to go

    The sting of the Pinodieta

The sharp 10 per cent ramp of the Col de Pinodieta, 3km from the line, is the last chance to gain or lose — and it is here the podium order firms up.

  2. At the line

Dumoulin wins, Thomas seals the Tour

Tom Dumoulin edges Froome by a second to win the time trial in Espelette, but the day belongs to Geraint Thomas, who rides safely home to seal his first Tour de France.
