Before the race

From the Lake District to Liverpool

Keswick sends the race south out of the Lake District, and the middle of the day is a run of short climbs: Jubilee Tower, the Trough of Bowland and Waddington Fell, 3.4 kilometres at 6.4%, all inside twenty-five kilometres, then Belmont. The Côte de Parbold tops out forty kilometres from Liverpool, and from there the road is close to flat: a sprinters' finish at the end of a day built to tire them.
