Chaos promised in the Basque hills

Jonas Vingegaard has the red jersey at last, 26 seconds up on Torstein Træen and 38 on João Almeida. Today is the day the riders have circled: 158 kilometres of short, savage Basque climbs around Bilbao, which more than one of them has called harder to control than the Angliru. The race has been shadowed by protests since it reached Spain, and the finale runs through the middle of a city.

   On the Basque climbs Tom Pidcock attacks and takes time on race leader Vingegaard.

2. 23 km to go

   Neutralised by protests

   With 3km to go pro-Palestine protesters block the road and the organisers neutralise the finish; no stage result is declared.
